Hyperbaric oxygen THERAPY
What is HBOT?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing oxygen-enriched air inside a chamber where atmospheric pressure is increased above normal. At Delamere Thrive, our chambers operate at up to 1.5 ATA, with oxygen supplied at approximately 93–95% concentration. The combination of increased pressure and increased oxygen concentration raises the amount of oxygen available in the lungs and bloodstream. This is why hyperbaric environments have attracted interest across medicine, sport, recovery and wellbeing.
At Delamere Thrive, HBOT is offered as a non-medical wellness and recovery therapy. You remain comfortable and at rest throughout your session, with our team on hand to guide and support you.

What happens in a session?
A standard Delamere Thrive HBOT session lasts 60 minutes from the start of pressurisation. The chamber is gradually pressurised to 1.5 ATA while you breathe oxygen at approximately 93-95% concentration. Once full pressure has been reached, you will put on your oxygen mask and begin your session. At the end of the session, the chamber is gradually returned to normal atmospheric pressure.
You can relax, read, listen to something or simply switch off while our team supports you throughout.

PERSONAL TESTIMONIAL
"I was back at work just seven days after my operation."
“When I found out that I needed surgery for a hernia, my surgeon explained that, based on a typical recovery, I should expect to be off work for around 6-8 weeks and that I would probably be able to drive again in around 2-4 weeks. At that stage, he was not aware that I had already been using Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and Red Light Therapy in preparation for surgery.
With a couple of months before my operation, I researched ways I could prepare myself as well as possible and support my recovery afterwards. During the two weeks leading up to surgery I had HBOT twice a week and used Red Light Therapy daily. For me, it became an important part of conditioning my body and preparing physically and mentally for the operation.
On the day of surgery, while my surgeon was taking me through the procedure, I asked how soon afterwards I could go back into the HBOT chamber and resume red light sessions. He seemed pleasantly surprised that I was aware of the therapies and that I had already been using them. He advised that, provided everything went well, I could restart both 48 hours after surgery.
My operation took place on a Wednesday afternoon. I was discharged that evening and, once I arrived home, I did not need any further pain relief. On Friday afternoon, around 48 hours after the operation, I had an HBOT session followed by Red Light Therapy. I felt fantastic and still had not needed pain medication.
On the Saturday evening my wife and I went out for a meal. It was great to be out so soon, and I felt well enough to drive home. I continued with red light sessions over the weekend, followed by HBOT and red light again on Monday and Wednesday morning. Later that Wednesday I visited my physiotherapist. After assessing me, he cleared me to return to work, provided I avoided heavy lifting. Seven days after my operation I was back at work, including driving approximately 100 miles each way in a large work van.
My recovery was considerably quicker than I had personally expected based on the recovery times I had originally been given. I cannot say that any single therapy was solely responsible for that, but HBOT and Red Light Therapy formed a major part of both my preparation for surgery and my recovery afterwards, and my personal experience was extremely positive.
For me, being proactive before the operation and continuing my recovery routine afterwards helped me minimise my downtime and get back to normal life far sooner than I had anticipated.”
